cubs fans, i feel that if you people loved me even a little bit, one of you would write me a story about ryan theriot and mike fontenot in omaha in 2000, when lsu won the college world series. because if you don't, i'm gonna have to, and as i said to shep. last night, then we're just in a place where i'm ashamed to know me. i promise not to be ashamed to know you, though!

we're moved, and now all that remains is ... the unpacking.

i took some blurry photos of my new apartment.

do any of you know anything about changing ports on download/torrent clients to circumvent firewalls? if you do, will you talk to me about them? i'm trying to bully acquisition into working around my internet service's firewall but i don't know anything about it.

i was thinking about slings & arrows and men with brooms today, and man, paul gross keeps ending up playing characters associated with dead guys who have weird post-death wishes. oliver welles' actual skull in all future productions of hamlet? donald foley in the curling stone? oh, paul gross. you are such a pretty, pretty, pretty man. with really fucking strange taste in roles.

omg, has it really been almost a week since i've posted? HAVE YOU PEOPLE MISSED ME ENOUGH YET?

anyway. a long list of random things that i have been thinking about while moving and since moving.
  1. I AM EMPLOYED OMG. once i start the job - it's in tech services in one of the carolina libraries - i will talk more about it but holy shit omg i can pay rent in october now hooray.

  2. moving related shenanigans: my cat is a spaz, the uhaul dies in kentucky, and other crises )
  3. you know what i want? i want a "cap it" button on my tivo. where i can pause the tivo, hit the "cap it" button, and the screen is saved into an image file. and later you can plug your computer into the tivo and pull the image files off the tivo. i cannot believe someone has not thought of this yet.

  4. speaking of the tivo, my mother called me last week to tell me, very sadly, that she did not think i would get bravo on my cable, as my sister does not. my mother, however, was mistaken, and i do get bravo. my obsession with west wing reruns can continue. even better, though, is that I GET WGN ON MY CABLE. OMG CUBS.

  5. dear sweet jesus, the most recent shoebox project SLAYED me. i am dead.

  6. and while i'm on the subject of fannish things i'm overcome by lately, the boy and i watched fellowship of the ring on friday night and i was just. i love that movie so much. the bit where the wee elijah is dancing at bilbo's party. the colors. the cinematography. viggo in the pub in bree. anytime dom and billy are onscreen. oh. so much love.

  7. and finally, one more obsession. why i am obsessed with google search history: blah blah blah what google does for me )

  8. minor league baseball: is the best thing ever. it's like real baseball, except that grown men fall down a lot, and the thing is - the baseball is just shitty enough that minor league teams have to provide something else for people to watch, and so minor league games are full of ridiculous between-inning shenanigans, like grown men pushing baby dolls in strollers, and children catching beanbag hands in frying pans. i love the durham bulls. i am so totally buying season tickets next year if i can swing the money.

  9. the high-speed internet provided by my apartment complex BLOCKS MY DOWNLOAD CLIENT. wtf. i am an adult. i can make my own decisions re: downloading illegal media. please piss off thank you very much. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET THE REST OF DOCTOR WHO NOW? *fist*

  10. so i'm going to rely on you guys to send me lots of new music. since i can't get it myself now. i am SO ANNOYED BY THIS. (that said: if anyone wanted to send me a billy corgan song called "friends as lovers", i would be most appreciative. you can send the file to minkittymusic at gmail dot com or just yousendit to my livejournal address. muchas gracias, minions!) i will begin the sharing by offering a counting crows cover of ryan adams' song "come pick me up". all right. now it's your turn.

  11. i don't have a desk chair. we threw out all our old chairs in the chicago apartment, because they were crappy and we bought them at a yard sale, but i still don't have a new chair in the north carolina apartment. i'm sitting on a big blue tupperware. i lose at life.

  12. in conclusion, ray kowalski.
hi hi hello how are you guys?

so the good news is that while i was packing up my stereo, i found my copy of led zeppelin's ii, which has been missing for somewhere in the neighborhood of a year and a half. YAY.

the bad news is that it was hiding behind the stereo all this time, and now is so scratched and coated in dust that it won't come clean and doesn't play at all. WOE.

MOVERS JUST TOOK MY BED AWAY OMG.

today i packed my neon green inflatable dinosaur into a box. also, fourteen boxes of books. *fallsover*

in public service announcement type news, if you were thinking about trying one of the blackberry slurpees at seven eleven, don't. i wasted a dollar twenty nine this morning to find out that they're awful so you don't have to.

dr. who thoughts forthcoming. i still have to formulate. and watch parting of the ways again. and take a nap.

dear collective brain:

pls give me advice on moving with a cat.

the boy and i will be driving a large u-haul truck (no comments on u-haul, pls, i have heard and considered them all by now and i have made my own fucking decision, thanks) from chicago to carrboro, north carolina, which is approximately 900 miles. i have one 15 pound cat who doesn't mind riding in his carrier but does mind riding in the car. i have tranquilizers from the vet which, having tested them at home, work very well to keep his tendency to howl in the car at a minimum. but those of you who've moved with cats, particularly long distances - any recommendations about a litter box in the car? should i keep the cat in his carrier or let him roam free while we drive? any horror stories, helpful advice, or general commiseration of others who are moving or have recently moved with cats appreciated.

love and kisses,
min

five things that have nothing at all to do with harry potter:
  1. i already said this to [livejournal.com profile] throughadoor, but yesterday bill buckner sang "take me out to the ballgame" at the cubs game, and the guy sitting next to me turned to his friend in the middle of the song and said, in his mid-afternoon beer-induced stupor, "ooooh, i hope grady little comes to sing soon, too." kel. proposes a grady little/nomar garciaparra duet, which i think is excellent, since what the fuck else is nomar doing right now, eh?

  2. when my revolution comes, the first people up against the wall are going to be the people that design unintuitive websites that make it complicated to find simple information that is of public record and also the people who make all their links open in new windows. i'm a big girl, you know. i can decide what window (or tab) i want to open your fucking links in.

  3. when i stop and think about all the stuff i'm going to try and cram into this weekend that do not include harry potter (hauling three bags and two boxes to the salvation army, seeing charlie and the chocolate factory and having lunch with sid, the mason jennings show and seeing [livejournal.com profile] bloodlossgirl tomorrow; laundry and more apartment purging and the decemberists on sunday), i kind of want to cry.

  4. i semi-permanently relocate to north carolina a month from this sunday. when i think about this, i really want to cry. mostly because i have yet to pack a single thing.

  5. in conclusion, ray kowalski.

dear collective livejournal brain:

does anyone out there know anything - good or bad - about eMove? i just booked the uhaul that the boy and i will be driving from chicago to carrboro, and i'm looking for two or three burly men to load my furniture (one sofa, one queen sized bed, four bookcases, a desk, a heavy dresser and two oversized tupperware containers) into it the day before we leave chicago. (my friends will theoretically be moving the rest of my boxes & electronics in exchange for beer and pizza.) uhaul suggested eMove to me, but i'm loathe to use a service i don't know and trust for something like this.

any opinions, good or bad, or any suggestions of stuff-loaders but not truck-drivers in the chicagoland area, would be much appreciated.

love and kisses,
min

p.s. i need a moving icon. like, a nice blank icon of boxes or something. i'm just sayin'.
