minervacat: (supernatural - that kind of brothers)
my wretched dmv shenanigans continue apace; look, i just want new license plates and a new title for my car, okay? all this crap with not being open during posted hours and requiring fourteen proofs of residence (isn't my NORTH CAROLINA DRIVER'S LICENSE enough, bitches?) is starting to get really fucking old.

and i still don't have new plates for my goddamned car.

supernatural 1x07, hook man: SPOILERS )

scrubs season one )

you know, i keep watching superteen out of some misguided loyalty to something, but i might have to stop, because james marsters with his natural hair color and his natural accent makes me laugh so hard i get the hiccups. and in the trailers, when he said "there's no such thing as vampires" in that stupid american accent that keeps wanting to be spike's accent, i nearly peed myself.

so, uh, i kind of love tv. and movies. kind of a lot. you may have noticed?

and it's not i love tv in a mind-rotting entertainment sort of way. i mean, i do love tv that way. but i also love it in a meta viewer statistics sort of way. i think there's a lot of tv that bad tv but incredible entertainment (superteen, or supernatural) and lots of tv that's great tv but only so-so entertainment and then the rare show that's great tv and great entertainment (arrested development; early simpsons; etc). i mean, between the tivo and netflix and michael taping things from hbo for me, i'm watching, these days, at least one episode of at least 16 shows a week.

that's a lot of time spent watching tv. and then i spend a lot of time talking about what i watch on tv after i've watched whatever it is.

i maybe should have been a media studies major. i maybe should have parlayed this into something useful.

but the thing is: i love seeing what shows people go crazy for, even if i don't watch them myself (survivor, i'm looking at you). i love seeing what shows people what even though they know they're genuinely terrible shows. i love seeing tv executives try to create new things. i love seeing people talk about tv.

hi. i'm min, and i have an addiction to television. and in the next couple of weeks, netflix is going to send me the adventures of pete and pete, homicide s6, nip/tuck s1, dead like me s2 and stargate: atlants s1. maybe, ah, maybe not quite in that order. *sheepish*
minervacat: (emilie de ravin is a looker)
omg, has it really been almost a week since i've posted? HAVE YOU PEOPLE MISSED ME ENOUGH YET?

anyway. a long list of random things that i have been thinking about while moving and since moving.
  1. I AM EMPLOYED OMG. once i start the job - it's in tech services in one of the carolina libraries - i will talk more about it but holy shit omg i can pay rent in october now hooray.

  2. moving related shenanigans: my cat is a spaz, the uhaul dies in kentucky, and other crises )
  3. you know what i want? i want a "cap it" button on my tivo. where i can pause the tivo, hit the "cap it" button, and the screen is saved into an image file. and later you can plug your computer into the tivo and pull the image files off the tivo. i cannot believe someone has not thought of this yet.

  4. speaking of the tivo, my mother called me last week to tell me, very sadly, that she did not think i would get bravo on my cable, as my sister does not. my mother, however, was mistaken, and i do get bravo. my obsession with west wing reruns can continue. even better, though, is that I GET WGN ON MY CABLE. OMG CUBS.

  5. dear sweet jesus, the most recent shoebox project SLAYED me. i am dead.

  6. and while i'm on the subject of fannish things i'm overcome by lately, the boy and i watched fellowship of the ring on friday night and i was just. i love that movie so much. the bit where the wee elijah is dancing at bilbo's party. the colors. the cinematography. viggo in the pub in bree. anytime dom and billy are onscreen. oh. so much love.

  7. and finally, one more obsession. why i am obsessed with google search history: blah blah blah what google does for me )

  8. minor league baseball: is the best thing ever. it's like real baseball, except that grown men fall down a lot, and the thing is - the baseball is just shitty enough that minor league teams have to provide something else for people to watch, and so minor league games are full of ridiculous between-inning shenanigans, like grown men pushing baby dolls in strollers, and children catching beanbag hands in frying pans. i love the durham bulls. i am so totally buying season tickets next year if i can swing the money.

  9. the high-speed internet provided by my apartment complex BLOCKS MY DOWNLOAD CLIENT. wtf. i am an adult. i can make my own decisions re: downloading illegal media. please piss off thank you very much. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET THE REST OF DOCTOR WHO NOW? *fist*

  10. so i'm going to rely on you guys to send me lots of new music. since i can't get it myself now. i am SO ANNOYED BY THIS. (that said: if anyone wanted to send me a billy corgan song called "friends as lovers", i would be most appreciative. you can send the file to minkittymusic at gmail dot com or just yousendit to my livejournal address. muchas gracias, minions!) i will begin the sharing by offering a counting crows cover of ryan adams' song "come pick me up". all right. now it's your turn.

  11. i don't have a desk chair. we threw out all our old chairs in the chicago apartment, because they were crappy and we bought them at a yard sale, but i still don't have a new chair in the north carolina apartment. i'm sitting on a big blue tupperware. i lose at life.

  12. in conclusion, ray kowalski.
hi hi hello how are you guys?

once upon a time, i made a mix of songs about baseball, and recently i keep thinking that i should make a mix of songs that sound like they're about baseball but really aren't at all, headlined by the mountain goats' "cubs in five" and belle & sebastian's "piazza, new york catcher".

the tivo insists on refusing to find any episodes of the adventures of pete & pete for me to watch, which makes me horribly sad on several levels, level one being that i can't afford to buy season one of pete & pete on dvd and level four being that since acquiring the tivo, i have become convinced that every show that has ever aired on television is on at some point during the day and it's just that i'm not usually awake at four am to watch reruns of clarissa explains it all. and yet! there is no pete & pete! my heart, it hurts.

last night, however, i did tivo the episode of the simpsons where selma tries to adopt a chinese baby, and they spraypaint homer gold and sneak him into the orphanage as a buddha, which is funny on a seriously personal level if you went to college with me and ever heard the story of the time that my technical director spraypainted an acquaintance of mine gold and sat him onstage as a buddha during a production of the king and i.

in other news, iced tea + amaretto equals the best idea i have had in weeks, except, you know, hangover.

p.s. dear uncursed: thanks for a totally entertaining series this weekend. come back soon! love, the cubs cursed

the boy has a rehearsal tonight, so i have the teevee all to myself and can watch whatever i want. trouble is, i have too much backlogged to-watch-in-the-future media saved up, and i am overwhelmed by choices!
