"streets of baltimore" is such a lovely song; i love the gram original, but i also adore the uncle tupelo cover. and, of course, my hometown, so it hits me double hard.

I very recently (like a few days ago) got corrected by someone when I said Gram wrote "Streets of Baltimore". Tompall Glaser & Harlan Howard wrote it for Bobby Bare in 1966. Charley Pride did it in 1969. Gram put it on G.P. in 1972. And my favorite version Nanci Griffith and John Prine sang it on her 1998 covers album. Sadly I don't have the Bobby Bare or the Charley Pride version (I never knew they existed!).

I was shocked, man, had no clue. I totally missed that when reading the liner notes. And no on the Uncle Tupelo cover, send please.

i'll hit you with it when i get home from work. it's pretty good; live, and a little tinny-sounding and tweedy doesn't know all the words, but it'll do.
