I just had this moment where I couldn't figure out why I was dizzy and feeling awful, and then I remembered: oh, yeah, I haven't eaten anything today. Whoops. I fail at being a grown-up.

hey! maybe i should finish the one i started for last year first. that could be my resolution for '08 -- finish everything i flaked on in '07.

i forget to eat so often that our office manager has taken to reminding me about lunch.

heee, i like that resolution. mostly because i am selfish and want to read your stories. :)

i don't usually forget to eat, because my stomach reminds me, but i wasn't even hungry this time! stupid body, needing nourishment.

aw, thanks! i had several that i was excited about, but then i kind of got devoured by knitting, which was always a more achievable goal than writing something :)

i find the need to eat highly irritating most of the time. like, didn't i just *do* this? and now i have to do it *again*? ugh.

since i cannot knit anything at all, i am in awe of your knitting this year. YOU MADE SOCKS. \o/

eating is just so bothersome, yes. especially because half the time, even when our fridge is full, i cannot find anything i want to eat. *sigh*

Hahahaaa, okay, it's kinda sad that my answer to best sporting event of 2007 is readable by all. I mean, sad as it reflects on ME.

Come ON, though. MIGUEL CABRERA WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

i am still sad that the tigers sent poor andrew miller to the purgatory that is florida. although florida has a great system for nuturing young pitchers, mills still deserves better than that.

or maybe i'm just biased because he was a tar heel. :D

posted by [identity profile] callmesandy.livejournal.com at 05:28pm on 19/12/2007
Well, you know, maybe if he'd done better in those starts he had with the Tigers ... I think he'll be fine. :)

MIGUEL CABRERA WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

i don't think the conversation ever got reproduced here, but at one point, i decided i was going to trade the orioles a basket of dirty laundry for miguel tejada, and then miggy to the marlins for mills, who we would promptly install on our couch as sort of a piece of conceptual art. "this is our kitchen, this is our living room, this is our exercise bike, this is our 6'6" starting pitcher."

sadly, the orioles traded miggy to houston for five players before i got the dirty laundry together to make an offer, so there will be no andrew miller for me this year. ALAS.

ALTERNATELY: HANSBROUGH-GATE; effects of the one-and-done rule in college basketball; hawaii's badassery; starbury's insanely hilarious breakdown over the summer; LT becoming 7th on list of running backs with most touchdowns; favre still playing football at all. OH, and baby. 30something-9. :(( yeeeeeeeeeeeeah.

I FEEL THIS CHALLENGE OPPRESSES MY OPPORTUNITIES TO WRITE MANGST. despite the fact i do not write mangst, or sports night, or danny!fic at all. :))

if you don't include navy beating notre dame, i will cry.

but if you do include it, i will totally write it. but i can't think of a whole lot else that would inspire me to write this year. except for, perhaps, mr. tyler hansbrough and his pretty pretty black eye and the ridonkulous mask.

i think this challenge is going to be college football heavy; so much awesome stuff happened this year! i couldn't limit it to just three or four things! so yes, i will include that for you.

and of course also g.h. lector, DUH.

Also in 2007: the system of the dress. tebow/joiner otp. the newly established wvu to michigan coaching pipeline. other coaching carousel insanity. brenda frese yelling at players. ncaa's stupid live blogging policy. pat summitt and bruce pearl dressing up of for the other's game. boise state over oklahoma to begin the year. skip. eddie robinson. terry hoeppner. the sports response to va tech.

skip. :(:(

also va tech. :(:(:(

I lurk on your LJ occasionally; I really enjoyed reading last year's entries in [livejournal.com profile] sportsbackinsn and would totally sign up if you did it this year. (I wish I'd known about it last year; I still want to write that "Dan and Casey cover Texas' national championship" story as a thin veneer for my glory. :D)

it looks like this year is a go, so i hope you keep an eye out for me opening it; i'll put the prompts up in the community sometime in the second week of january. i'd love to have you write something, even if it isn't texas related. :)

posted by [identity profile] sundancekid.livejournal.com at 11:53pm on 19/12/2007
Yay! I'll go ahead and friend the comm now. I'll probably sign up for something NCAA football related, because that's what I know best.

(Although I like the person below me's comment about Jessica Simpson, 'cause I do love the mental image of Casey railing against ever mentioning her existence on his show. *g*)

posted by [identity profile] honey-babes.livejournal.com at 11:34pm on 19/12/2007
It isn’t the best but Dale Jr leaving DEI is definitely one of the biggest things to happen this year.

If you’ve watched Sportscenter at all during the last couple of days then you would know that Jessica Simpson is the biggest sporting event of the year. Seriously, if I have to watch Jay Harris drool over that video of her at the game one more time, I’m going to be sick. How am I supposed to have naughty thoughts about Jay/Josh Elliot if they keep talking about girls? *cries*

Here are a couple more I thought of:
Football: Kevin Everett’s broken neck & recovery.
Baseball: Rockies playoff run or Bonds breaking the record.
Personal: Syracuse Basketball getting JIPPED out of the tournament! (I’m in denial where Eric Devendorf is concerned.)

posted by [identity profile] minervacat.livejournal.com at 11:38pm on 19/12/2007
... right, bonds broke the record. i had ACTUALLY FORGOTTEN about that, hee. :)

Don't feel bad...between the rumors of steroid use and the fact that the Giants were the only people who actually seemed to care it's a wonder the rest of us even knew it happened in the first place. I like Bonds as much as the next person (which is to say, not at all) but it really was a huge accomplishment on his part and I feel a tiny bit bad that I don't really care.

Prompt 1: Did someone say...Calvinball?

Prompt 2: While filming a piece on San Francisco's Bay to Breakers race one of the staff gets a little more than they bargained for.

Prompt 3: The accidental discovery of some HP slash leads to a vigorous discussion of the phrase "quidditch toned thighs."

heeee, thank you, I will keep those in mind -- I'm looking more for specific factual events (like "Barry Bonds breaks the home run record" and "App State beats Michigan in the Big House"), but who knows what I might end up doing? :)

Oh, you mean *real* sports. Nope, don't know nothin' 'bout those. No ideas, nary a one. Ummm...The crew heads to Beijing for some pre-Olympic coverage and...something sports-y happens? Does that help? No? Damn.

i say, "no, i wouldn't write" because, well, the shameful fact of the matter is this: i am still working on my fic from last year (&, no, it is not novel-length). true story.

I've never seen Sports Night so I couldn't participate really, but ...

Michigan and Notre Dame both losing their first two games! And the rest of the Big Ten kerfuffles, with everyone losing to everyone else. Oh, Illinois beating Ohio State...

Also in general, all of the times the top 5 teams were upset. Bonus because it happened every week.

Some others:

ProTour title comes down to the wire, including calculations based on whether or not doping suspensions are overturned. (And Cadel wins!!) (pro cycling).

Davydenko's gittishness and complete inability to understand why he wasn't in the Russian Davis Cup final team (tennis)

The chaos and pointlessness of the Cricket World Cup.

Someone's got to be able to get something out of the Rugby World Cup, although I'll admit to only paying attention to the day both Australia and New Zealand got beaten...

*thumbs up* thank you for those! i have literally NO IDEA what any of them are about, but i can certainly look them up. :)

Short version of the Cricket world cup from a non-Cricket fan:

Point one: the first week or so of the month-long cup is utterly pointless to the big countries (but huge for the "small" cricket countries like Canada, the Netherlands, the US (if there's a team - I'm not sure)). For the "Minnows" (ie Canada, Netherlands, etc) it's their one chance in four years to play countries like NZ, Australia, India, Pakistan, etc.

This time around, two "big" countries got beaten by Minnows one time too many in the early rounds. One of these was Pakistan. The Pakistani coach, a Brit (I think), was found dead in his hotel room the morning after the Pakistani loss. The cause of death went from natural causes to murder and back again. There were all sorts of accusations about betting on matches and match-throwing and things like that. It was the lead item on the news in Australia for at least a week or so, until it got to the semi-finals and Australia started beating other teams the way they thought they ought to do...

Annnnnd some NASCAR ones:

DEI teaching us all how to have family fights in public.
A fan asking for Matt Kenseth's autograph...during a race.
Juan Pablo Montoya pissing off the entire rest of the sport one person at a time.
Kasey Kahne getting arrested at a track; bonus points for the security guy who "somehow" got knocked down.

I know! They were stopped for a red flag, and this idiot guy comes running down and onto the track and sticks his head in Kenseth's passenger window with a hat and a Sharpie.

Kenseth said something along the lines of, "Buddy, I'm a little busy right now." He said later he wished he had signed for the guy, since he got arrested and all.

And also? This was on my NASCAR news feed today. Kasey K gets sued for shoving security guard. It's like magic!

I totally cheated on best sporting event of the year, and answered sporting moment that made me happiest in my withered schadenfreude-loving heart. Actually interesting (if not necessarily happy) sporting events include Adrian Peterson breaking the single-game rushing record halfway through his rookie season, everything that has happened to the Atlanta Falcons, and Joe Torre leaving the Yankees.

mmmm, yes, joe leaving the yankees. shoulda thought of that one, i live with a yankees fan.

I'm mostly a lurker in the fandom and have never written SN but I think, for this challenge, I'd try. I SO enjoyed reading last years' stories. For some prompts:

NFL (some of these are obvious but you never know): Kevin Everett's injury/recovery. Sean Taylor's murder. Brett Favre finds the Fountain of Youth. The Patriots go for perfection. Tom Brady tries to break the TD record held by Peyton Manning. Randy Moss tries to break the TD catch record held by Jerry Rice. Peyton Manning hosts SNL. Michael Vick. That whole thing with the Patriots spying. TO's comments about Jessica Simpson. Tony Romo + Jessica Simpson.

MLB: The Mets sad, sad slide into history by NOT making the playoffs when up 7 games on the Phillies with 17 games left. A-Rod's record breaking contract (and the debacle that accompanied it). The Mitchell Report. Barry Bonds breaks THE record. (There are so so many more but you said you didn't need help with MLB)

NBA: Tim Donaghy's indicted by the FBI for gambling on games he officiated. The Celtics return to glory. The 1-2 debate on Greg Oden and Kevin Durant as top draft pick. Oden's season-ending knee surgery. Isiah Thomas' sexual harassment lawsuit. Kobe Bryant is the youngest player to reach 20,000 points.

NHL: Martin Brodeur gets 500 career wins. Chris Simon's vicious on-ice attitude and his latest stunt that got him a 30 game suspension. NY Rangers signing Drury AND Gomez this summer. NHL opens season in London.

Tennis: Federer wins his 5th straight Wimbledon, tying Bjorn Borg. The Federer-Nadal rivalry increases. The US wins the Davis Cup. Martina Hingis retires amidst cocaine use rumors.

Assorted: Marion Jones admits to lying in federal court and is stripped of her medals. How much it sucks to be a commissioner in a major sport right now. Florida wins national titles in both football and basketball, first college ever to do so. Floyd Mayweather beats Ricky Hatton, becoming an undisputed best pound-for-pound boxer alive. Helio Castroneves wins Dancing with the Stars.

Wow, I totally got carried away there!! Feel free to use any (or none) of them, they were just highlights that came to mind when I thought back on the year. Hope they help!
