i spent basketball season talking a lot of shit about virginia tech, but right now my heart and my thoughts and my prayers go out to everyone there, and their families, and their friends. flist, i hope everyone you know and love is safe right now.

there are really no words for this. i watch the tv and think, i just don't understand.

I was so scared today--a boy I've known since I was five goes to Virginia Tech, and is an engineering major. I was so relieved that he was okay, but I'm still so sad and upset and (yes, I'll admit it) pissed off for all the victims.

i should never have switched over from simpsons reruns to cnn -- i couldn't look away, and i couldn't stop crying. and, once again, no matter how long i watched, i just *couldn't understand* how things like this happen.

i have been...lost about this today, because for better or worse, i view tech as irreversably connected to uva, and my heart breaks for them, oddly enough even MORE because of who they are, and what they mean and have meant to me, as a wahoo. it makes me want to cry when i think, what if it was charlottesville, what if that was old cabell, what if what if what if, and it makes my heart hurt so bad.

the republican is a vatech alum and usually its a funny joke, haha, that not only are we on opposite sides of good an evil, politically, but virginia sports wise, as well, and he's so broken right now, and it hurts watching him watch this.

Min,
I can report that the theater department at VT is OK, but we're all in a bit of shock and waiting for the lists to come out. Our building is across Stanger from McBryde. I was headed to campus when I heard the news of the initial shooting...going to a Russian class in the building across the parking lot from Norris. It'll take a good long time for things here to feel normal, but we will return to classes, rehearsals, etc. by mid- or late-week, I hope. I will be at tomorrow's convocation, etc. Please pass my love on to Sid and EonLJ. Don't really have anything else to say right now. Thanks to everyone for thoughts/support.
