The only associations I have between them and North Carolina are 1) Browder's Southern, right? which doesn't mean NC necessarily, and 2) I've seen a pic of Browder in a UNC shirt. But had Mitchell attended an NC school, OF COURSE he would have gone to State. DUH. Good call!
