HOLY CRAP I AM TIRED.

And this is why:
  • [American Aquarium @ the Lincoln] 03.13.09. Raleigh, NC. Supported by Cary Ann Hearst and Bain Mattox. Still my favorites of favorites, still the band I love the best. A fantastic fantastic show, and now that they're on the road so much, it's always a particular joy when they come home and play here.

  • [Holy Ghost Tent Revival @ JJ's Bohemia] 03.14.09. Chattanooga, Tennessee. ... look, sometimes you just have to drive to Tennessee to see a band.

  • [the CH to the 'Noog] 20 hours in a car in the rain over the mountains -- but Chattanooga is actually a really adorable little city, and holy fuck are the mountains in Western NC and Eastern TN beautiful. Plus, Civil War battlefields! And angry anti-liberal bumper stickers! And road trips!
And so I am fucking exhausted, because we hardly slept this weekend and there was a lot of white-knuckle driving (all done by [livejournal.com profile] quicknow, who is one of my favorite people in the world ever and also the only person I would trust to drive me through the mountains in shitty weather) and two late shows over two days and SO TIRED.

SO SO SO TIRED.

*falls over*

OH HEY ALSO: raise your hand if you're interested in an NCAA basketball tournament pool this year; winner will get a print of one of my photos of their choosing, I think. I might actually get that done, unlike the last two years of prizes. I still owe [livejournal.com profile] herrgooch a music spam, I haven't forgotten. But I'm not going to run a pool unless I've got a bunch of people interested.

Wooo, Chattanooga! That's my home town. It is a gorgeous little gem of a city now (though I don't think I could live there again until I'm 55 or so, mostly because of the large numbers of angry anti-liberals). I'm glad you enjoyed your time there. It is truly one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

i just wish the weather had been better -- i could have killed days just wandering around the downtown taking pictures, because it was so lovely, but the rain sort of made that hard to do.

i saw what you mean (http://www.flickr.com/photos/minervacat/3359050219/in/set-72157615273212061/) about the angry anti-liberals (http://www.flickr.com/photos/minervacat/3359050199/in/set-72157615273212061/), though.

Heee, that's exactly what I expect out of a certain (unfortunately large) segment of the population there. The real fun is reading their local news website, chattanoogan.com (http://www.chattanoogan.com). It is home to some of the worst writing and most ignorant reader comments of any "news" site I've ever been on. But their police blotter is comedy gold.

I love the Smoky Mountains, and your pictures make me want to drive down there right now, rain or not.

I HAD NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE AND IT WAS AMAZING.

it is true that i am totally terrified of heights and i eventually had to make shep. switch seats with me so i could feel safer in the backseat, but oh my god so gorgeous. even in my burning fear and all.

COME VISIT US, WE WILL GO GOOF OFF UP IN THE MOUNTAINS.

Seriously, you have no idea how close I am to driving down there right now. SEE YOU IN 13 HOURS.

I rode through Tennessee a couple of times as a preteen, listening to, like, Simon and Garfunkel on my walkman. The Smoky Mountains and Wednesday Morning, 3 AM - who wouldn't put them together?

i had only ever been to the other end of tennessee, to memphis a couple of times, and the eastern part of the state is really beautiful in its own way. the mountains! i don't know why we don't get up to the mountains more often; my default state of travel is always east to the beach. but now i'm going to make more of an effort to see mountains.

also, ahahahaha, your comment about civil war battlefields. DID YOU GO TO LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN IN CHATTANOOGA?

Oh, we totally

SAW BEAUTIFUL

on Lookout Mountain. (And now I want to find a children's book that I remember, where some kids managed to attract tourists to their town with lots of signs for roadside attractions with fine print, like SEE THE WORLD'S twenty-second LARGEST BALL OF TWINE.)

we went up to point park and craven's house, because [livejournal.com profile] quicknow has a national parks membership and they were free as opposed to rock city, but i loled at all the rock city and ruby falls signs. someday when i am rich i shall go back to the 'noog and SEE ROCK CITY without worry about cost. :D

i like that we are having this conversation in two places. perhaps we should consolidate.

Hey, I'll play for the NCAA tournament this year - I love seeing how far I can get while pretty much completely making it up or choosing teams based on names. :)

(also? *glomps*)

My local radio station is doing a NCAA pool this year. Amusingly enough, your photo would be a WAY better prize than any they are offering. To join I wouldn't actually have to WATCH the games, would I? I mean we're starting on spring-training baseball which is sucking me in like a giant sucking thing.

Get some rest!

you don't have to watch anything to play! i mean, i watch most of it, because i'm a crazy person, but you hear stories every year about the receptionist who won the $1000 office pool by picking teams whose names she liked. knowing anything about the games is not a requirement. :)

I will drive you over and back across the mountains again anytime. Next time I request better weather.

Also <333333s

And yes NCAA pool.

Myself and the hubby would both be interested in an NCAA pool. Hey, fun fact, did you know it's illegal to do that where I work?

I love browsing through your galleries; I always know I'm going to see a perspective I wouldn't expect. Your eye for texture is incredible.

awwww, thanks so much! i'm glad you dig my stuff -- i certainly dig taking it, and trying to find a different way to look at things. (i see the same two blocks of chapel hill every day during the work week, so it's fun to push myself into finding new shots there, and then that spills over.)
