I greatly enjoyed the epicness ;) I would also like to hear more about your complex budgeting spreadsheet as that's what I'm trying to force msyelf to do lately and it's HARD (age inappropriate whine)

basically i account for every pay period in about ... 15 categories, from bills that need to get paid to gas to food to concert tickets to cash i get from the ATM, and literally anything that i spend with my debit card -- right down to the $1.60 i spend getting a coke from the drug store down the street from my office -- goes into the appropriate box, and then a formula adds all those numbers up and subtracts it from my paycheck/any other income (this two weeks included my tax refunds) to give me what i have in spare money, for emergency grocery shopping, booze, dinner out, whatever i haven't covered in my specific categories, before my next pay check.

basically it has pay periods running across the top, with dates in the top row and then the next row is how much my paycheck was each pay period, and my categories down the side, and the bottom-most row is the total amount i have left after paying all those things.
