  1. [Chicago] is the sort of place a photographer could never get tired of, because it's so huge and it's always changing. I had a lovely weekend with [livejournal.com profile] insidian, who tolerated my habit of stopping every five feet to take a picture and who fed me incredibly well, but I also hold fast to the belief that our weather is better than Chicago's weather, and I am turning into one of those old people who makes location decisions based on the weather. Spring happens in February in the NC. Sometimes winter comes back in March for a few days, but mostly, spring, February, everyone is happy.

  2. Speaking specifically of the weather:

I suffer summers in the NC for winters like that. It's supposed to be colder here next week, if by colder you mean "in the 50s".

I took advantage of the weather (and Tuesdays being my work from home days) yesterday and went out and farted around in [Chatham County] with the camera. It's always nicer to have company, which I did not, but it was still lovely to be outside.

  3. Anybody out there who has experience with renting camera lenses? I am tentatively eventually in the market for the purchase of a 50mm lens and while I'd love to buy the Nikkor 50mm/f1.4 (uuuuuuuuugh you guys my lust for this lens is only matched by my lust for the Tamron 12-24mm macro wide angle lens), the 50mm/f1.8 is waaaaaaaay more in my potential price range, so I was toying with the idea of renting a 50/1.8 lens for a couple of weeks, to see how it stands up to the low light in the crappiest of our venues and also taking pictures of baseball, as these are my two big lens requirements. My problem being that there are a ton of lens/equipment rental companies out there, and I have no idea who's reputable and who's not, and who's got the best selection and prices. So if you've rented lenses -- tell me from whom and what you rented! I want to investigate.

And if you happen to be in the Triangle and could point me someplace where I could rent in person instead of via the internet tubes, that's even better.

  4. Carolina at Duke, tonight, 9PM, ESPN if you live anywhere outside of North Carolina, RAYCOM if you're in the NC. Either it's going to be amazing or it's going to be brutal, but it's Carolina/Duke -- it's always good.

  5. My favorite coworker made himself a tuna sandwich at 9:30 this morning. I love him and I love tuna, but not at 9:30 AM. I've been feeling vaguely ill since.

  6. This is why I haven't posted recently, you guys. I have got absolutely nothing of interest to say. I took some pictures! I watched some basketball! (How killer was the end of the Florida/Kentucky game last night? AMAZING.) I cooked some things! :D? :D?

My life is so boring, but it's my life and the fact of the matter is, I really like it.

In the long history of awesome things that Min has ever said, this might rank #1.

Sometimes the most comfortable times make for the least interesting narratives (a trade-off I personally consider totally worth it). I'm glad it's treating you awesomely. And yeah, thinking about tunafish at 10:30 made me a little uncomfortable, I can only imagine smelling it at 9:30.

we also have someone in the office who microwaves baked potatoes at odd hours of the day, but it doesn't gross me out nearly the way the tuna fish did. just, uuuuuuuugh, too too too early for that. :(

5. My favorite coworker at my old job used to heat up horrible things in the microwave in my office. One morning around 9 am, it was baked beans. I made my disgust widely known.

Boring is good - interesting means SHIT is going DOWN. Excitement entails uncertainty, uncertainty entails risk, risk entails danger and danger is a path to the dark side. In other words, no news is good news. :)

i like excitement, but i am good with the lack of risk and danger. :D

when i saw that, my first thought was that i should probably not be tromping around under this overpass by myself on a tuesday morning when there's probably nobody within shouting range.

then i climbed through some bushes and took pictures of flowers.

my guess is you'd be fine on Tuesday morning. Saturday night, otoh, you might avoid.

Carolina/Duke tonight? So I need to check the scores and be ready for whether I'm getting Happy Boss or Cranky Boss tomorrow. ::makes a note::

Man, you guys get Duke and we get Baylor? Who hasn't beaten us SINCE THE EARLY DAYS OF THE CARTER ADMINISTRATION? The Big XII is soft in basketball this year, Kansas and saxeT are not what they usually are, but I'm still hoping for a #1 seed, although depending on the brackets, I don't know if we'd make the Final Four.

don't underestimate baylor! they are better than that five game losing streak shows, and y'all have won a couple of close ones. :P

sometimes the acc feels really unfair to me. but whyyyyyyyyyyyyy do we have to play duke and state twice a year sort of mentality. on the other hand, well, it's the acc. and even in down years the acc generally has at least a couple of title contenders. *grin*

Carter administration.

I go to school with people who weren't alive the last time Baylor beat OU.

(Although I've seen it written that losing might be a good thing for us. I think such advice is ridiculous beyond measure.)

hey, baylor's gonna win sometime! just like clemson is going to win in chapel hill sometime.

just not any time soon.

6. Kentucky/Florida
My boss had tickets to that game, two seats in the second row of the lower arena of Rupp, and he GAVE THEM AWAY TO FLORIDA FANS. Part of me died inside. But then that part caught its second win when Meeks made the 3 at the buzzer. (My love for Meeks is almost boundless. ♥)

!!!!!!

i can't think of a single instance in which i would turn down tickets to a college basketball game. maybe if i was in the hospital, deathly ill? THAT ENDING, THAT ENDING WAS AMAZING. (in the interest of honesty: i was rooting for florida, but i'll take a great game over a rout any day, unless carolina is involved.)

(In the interests of honesty: If I weren't a Kentucky alumni and didn't know personally some of the players and members of the coaching staff, and Billy Gillespie was still coaching the Wildcats? I'd root for whoever played against Kentucky, because frankly Gillespie's kind of an asshole. But he's our coach, and we're stuck with him, and I love my boys, and I'm so glad they won.) SUCH a great game.

Renting lenses rocks. Rentglass.com is what I use and they make it easy easy easy peasy. They have both Canon and Nikon lenses too.

Minnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, the Duke/UNC game was On My TV but I could not watch it as I was at the opera!!

SFD watched most of it, he said it was a good entertaining game. (And of course the result is as I hoped it would be!)

Also consider the new, ultra sexy AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G

It's going to be about $200, but what you save on rental, you gain in field.
I have the 50 mm. It's a pain when you're shoved up next to the stage, because it shoots like a 75, and sometimes all you want is a slightly bigger field, but hell if you're giving up your spot, you know? Also, remember, used lenses rock.

that lens is definitely on my list -- considering asking for it for my birthday -- but i scored a 50mm/f1.8 off craigslist for $55 yesterday, so the pressing need for fast glass is slightly less pressing at the moment. :D
