i stayed up half the night watching cnn, drinking wine from a plastic bacchus cup in front of the television, listening to arlo guthrie's version of "the city of new orleans" over and over, stunned silent.
i have to go to orientation for school in a little while. talk to me anyway. tell me that you're safe and warm and dry, if not happy. tell me something good, please.
good morning, america. how are you?

So i take it I'm not the only one who's had that song stuck in her head for going on 48 hours now?
(every time someone says "the city of New Orleans." EVERY TIME.)
i'm the train they call the city of new orleans

Good thing: it's almost fall, when the air turns crisp and the light slants a little bit differently, time for hot cider and pumpkin beer and sweaters.

The news I'm seeing now seems to suggest that New Orleans was spared much of the worse damage it could have sustained, though I guess around a million people don't have power.

Where the Saints of football play
Lived a city that the damned called home
Hear their hellish rondelet
That was in my head all night...

Sorry for the short notice, I only found out I'd be here a few days ago and realized you were in the area today. Next time (whenever that may be)!

Have fun at school today, and try not to stress out too much over things (like the hurricane) over which you have no control. I know it's hard.
I'm tracking the storm, trying to see how much damage it's doing to Mobile, AL, where I have several cousins, including a set of quintuplets. The storm's supposed to pass right over Nashville in a couple of days. Glad I'm not there, but I'll be in contact with all my friends who are.

Another tropical storm/potential hurricane is projected to hit this coming weekend, so I am starting to keep an eye on that as well.

It's not, you know, a hurricane or anything, but enh, you get what you pay for.
I give you this icon in honor of your earworm!

But the way things are going, looks like it could've been a whole lot worse for NoLa. Let's hope the levees hold out.

baked tofu! marinated in copious amounts of oil, braggs, garlic and ginger and slow cooked for a couple hours. mmm.
also, this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/northamptonshire/4194098.stm) made me chuckle.
and yes, i'm safe and warm and mostly dry, although that's not very surprising, given my location.
