home again, home again, jiggity jig. it's cold and wet and gross here, but it was colder and wetter in chicago, so i guess. well. it evens out. there's no boyfriend or bff here.

five ways you can tell you're reading a story by minervacat:
1. it's a long gen character study with no discernible plot but many off-hand references to romance.

2. the characters are frequently defined and/or grounded by a strong sense of place, and romantic relationships are compared in detail to the city and/or location in question.

3. the characters eat, and said eating is frequently abused as a plot device. oh my god, do i have a food kink. HUGE cooking/eating/etc kink.

4. awkward, intimate first time oh-my-god-i-think-i-like-you fumblings are interspersed with wacky shenanigans like biting the heads off gummy bears or fearing death by chopsticks.

5. the title comes from not-so-obscure indie rock song lyrics.
AND. five ways you can tell you're reading a livejournal dot com post by minervacat:
1. it contains at least one mention of wanting to die due to cat and/or school and/or coffee related shenanigans.

2. it contains at least one mention of wanting to punch stupid people in the head.

3. it contains irrational obsessing over irrelevant information regarding acc basketball games or the national league central's current starting lineup status.

4. it contains at least one inside joke that could possibly be construed as offensive.

5. it contains at least one possibly poorly thought out comparison of library administration policy to functioning thoughtfully and productively in fandom.
in other news, there was an overly complicated story about my hair here, but all you really need is the punchline: despite all this good hair karma, though, the problem is still that after i finish toweling my hair dry after a shower, the resemblance i bear to radek zelenka is freakish.

also, i watched the animated disney atlantis while i was in chicago, and i found myself giggling hysterically over the similarities between that atlantis and, well, stargate atlantis. the bookish glasses wearing linguist! the odd native language! iceland and antarctica! the weirdly grief stricken native heroine! the supremely advanced civilization! the puddlejumpers! the sunken (flying) city shielded by power sources that have been lost for years!

sadly no hottie air force major or ill-tempered physicist, but despite that i still laughed so hard i almost fell off the couch.
