opener: okkervil river. if the old 97s and the decemberists had a musical love child, they'd be okkervil river. they were quite good live, but i'm actually enjoying them even more in their studio stuff; sid and i bought don't fall in love with everyone you see and it's really quite good.
febrile, remind me to burn it for you. i think you'd dig it.
( decemberists set list, 04.07.05, the metro, chicago )
you know how sometimes you like a band and then you go and they're only sort of mediocre live and it kind of sours the whole thing for you? (shut up. i know i'm not the only person who's had this experience.) well, the decemberists are not that band. they were so funny and charming and fierce live, and they played "los angeles, i'm yours" (!!!) and "red right ankle" (!!!!!) and "the soldiering life" (!!!!!!!!, because this is my kowalski/fraser otp song, please do not ask why thank you kindly) and colin is just. adorable and geeky, and oh, his voice, live, is just so much more gorgeous and shivery than it is on the albums. and twat and sid and i danced and danced and danced, and i made eyes at the guitarist/pedal steel/tambourine player from okkervil river during the slow bits in the set, and i am SO TIRED this morning but it was totally worth it, because they rocked the place down last night.
and now i am trying to figure out if i can convince sid and twat that we want to drive to madison tonight and try and see them again omg. (i mean, not seriously. but sort of. in the back of my head. because really. that good, minions. they were that good. (we should probably just stay home with eddie izzard and thai food, though.))
HI, MINIONS! I HAVE DONUTS! MY ANKLES HURT FROM DANCING TOO MUCH IN BOOTS! HI!
p.s. no linkies today, too busy, work blowing up, blah blah blah. monday, promise. <3
