sin city: ( spoilers )
smoke signals: this is the first of a long line of "re-watches" from netflix, movies i remember loving ages ago but haven't seen in years, and it didn't disappoint. it's just such a gem of a movie, beautifully cut and incredibly gorgeous and just so moving. the way the flashbacks slice the present day action, the structure's just lovely and tight and really helps build a feeling for the characters. i adore this movie, and i'm sorry i waited so long to see it again. A
trick: another rewatch, though this one wasn't quite as charming as i remembered it being. tori spelling is, surprisingly, not appalling as a sidekick (she was actually quite good in house of yes, to be honest) and the movie's sweet, if a little cliched and campy, and christian campbell - the lead - is just the most adorable thing. oh, the dimples. but this was probably better on the first watch than a second or third. B-
calendar girls: sweet, charming, unfortunately completely unmemorable and probably more appealing to my mother than to me, but not a bad way to spend an afternoon. B+
